HEART OF STONE BY SAM E. KRAEMER : BOOK REVIEW

 BLURB

“Hi! I’m Dr. Dream, and I’m probably the hottest guy you’ll ever meet. I have silver hair, but I’m young at heart. I have lots of fans, but I’m looking for my Number One. Is it you, younger guy? Hit me up!”

ER Deputy Chief Stone Dooley got the surprise of his life when he learned his twin daughters had signed him up for a gay dating site, without his knowledge, three years after he became a widower. What was supposed to be a quick drink and an apology for his daughters’ prank, turned into tentative friendship and an agreement to swap services—Stone would take care of the younger man’s ailing grandfather if the young guy would help out with childcare for his daughters over the summer.Twists and turns test their blossoming friendship. Grief, loss, secrets, and a threat to tear his family apart all test Stone’s limits to his breaking point. What is the key to weathering the storms heading in Stone’s direction? Maybe a blond-haired young man with jade green eyes could crack the Heart of Stone?

REVIEW

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“Hold his hand and tell him he looks handsome.”

It has been three years since Stone lost his husband. He had met Baron, who was a plastic surgeon at the time at a medical charity convention and was instantly taken up by him.

Not a day went by without him hurting and feeling the void that his husband left behind.

His daughters miss their Poppa too, but they also want to see their Daddy happy.

So they take matters into their own hands and create a profile for their dad on the gay dating website, Love under the Rainbow.

When they find the perfect candidate, the only thing left is to break the news to their father. It wouldn't be an easy task, but would definitely be worth it. What harm could come from meeting a handsome man for a drink?

“No, tell him you love him. Everyone wants to be loved, Daddy. Can you do that?”

As the Deputy Chief of Emergency Medicine, Stone sometimes had to work odd hours and that meant he got to spent little time with his daughters. When his daughters confess to signing him up for a blind date with a stranger no less, he is livid. Moreover, the stranger has deleted his profile and there is no way to call off the date now.

“We love him, Daddy. We don’t want him to date Kylie Fischer’s uncle. You should date Theo,”

Theodore Hill hasn't been the luckiest in the dating game lately. Since he is writing an article based on how older men perceive younger guys who want to settle down, he wants some brag worthy content to include in his research. Hopefully this date which he found on the 'Younger Guys Seeking Silver Foxes’ category

goes better than his previous ones.

When Theo spots his Dr Dream, he is shocked by how attractive he is. Not only is he absolutely gorgeous but his adorable babbling was kind of cute too. Too bad, the only thing Doctor McDreamy wants is friendship.

When Theo's grandfather falls ill, Stone puts forward a self serving proposition. Take care of his twins and in turn he would provide Theo's grandfather with the best health care available.

“Daddy remember what we told you. Please don’t mess this up. We love you, and we love Theo.”

What starts as a simple proposition, turns into something more. But soon the simple life that they have created is threatened by people seeking to take away all that Stone holds dear.

Will Stone realize that the happiness

he seeks is right in front of him? If only he would admit to it.

This was a sweet age gap, opposites attract, May/December Romance.

I loved the dynamics and the slow build up of Stone and Theo's relationship. They complemented each other well and came together so beautifully.

I especially liked how the author dealt with Stone coping with his grief of losing his husband, and the guilt and anguish he felt when he realizes that he is attracted to a much younger man.

The flashbacks and back stories  added an additional depth to the story and made the characters more real and relatable.

The twists and turns that the plot took were quite unexpected and kept me engaged.

And not to mention, Megan and Madison were the most adorable and cutest matchmakers.

They were a ray of sunshine in the bleakest of times!

I loved their logic that, 'a younger man would be perfect for their father, so they didn’t have to worry about anyone dying'.

This was by far the most adorable and accurate logic.

Overall, this left me feeling bitter sweet (in the best way). I went in expecting a light and fluffy read, but got much more than I bargained for.

I absolutely recommend this if you like a real romance served with medium angst, grief, loss of a loved one and a much earned HEA brought to you by the cutest of matchmakers.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

I am proud to say I grew up in the rural Midwest until I was fortunate enough to meet a dashing young man who swept me off my feet and to the East Coast where I now live with my family, two aging Yorkshire Terriers, and a huge amount of gratitude for the life with which I’ve been blessed.

I have a loving, supportive family who kindly overlooks my addiction to writing, reading, and the extensions of my hands…my computer to write, or my Kindle to read the stories others write.  I’m old enough to know how to have fun but too old to care what others think about my definition of a good time.  In my heart and soul, I believe I hit the cosmic jackpot with the life I have, and I try to remember to thank the Universe for it every day.  Cheers!
